10月23日下午，由广州美术学院主办的“景别：加里·希尔作品展”开幕式，在广州美术学院大学城美术馆举行。广州美术学院院长范勃、副院长蔡拥华，本次展览艺术家加里·希尔（Gary Hill），厦门大学创意与创新学院院长秦俭，当代艺术家胡介鸣，东莞莞城美术馆副馆长徐娇，艺术家保罗·希格斯、亨尼·奥弗贝克，及广州美术学院各相关职能部门、二级学院负责人和师生代表参加了开幕式。广州美术学院美术馆副馆长洪荣满主持。
On the afternoon of October 23, the opening ceremony of the "Gary Hill: Continuous Happening" hosted by Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts was held at the Art Museum of GAFA University Town Campus. Fan Bo, President of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Cai Yonghua, Vice President, Gary Hill, the artist, Qin Jian, Dean of the Institute of Creativity and Innovation of Xiamen University, Hu Jieming, contemporary artist, Xu Jiao, Deputy Director of Guancheng Museum of Dongguan, artists Paul Segers and Henny Overbeek, and relevant functional departments, secondary college leaders and teachers and students of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts attended the opening ceremony. 范勃在致辞中对加里·希尔在广美举行中国首次大型个人作品展表示衷心祝贺和热烈欢迎，并指出，加里·希尔是美国当代影像艺术的奠基人之一。自上世纪60、70年代起，加里·希尔就开启了对新媒介的探索和综合材料的艺术实验，视频监视器、多轨录音带、视频合成器、声音合成器等成为他影像装置艺术的标志性组成；同时，他最早生发了“电子语言学”概念，关注图像、声音和语言在电子媒体这一特定领域中的相互关系及作用机制。本次展览以“景别”为主题，呼应的正是加里·希尔通过“电子语言学”对语言、身体、意识和知觉复杂关联的多样实践，以及对自我、机器、媒介和技术多重互动的复合探索。尤为难得的是，展览除了影像作品外，还并置展示了大量相关文献，这使得本次展览成为一个很有意义的当代样本，不仅使观众得以全方位地了解加里·希尔的艺术实践及其创作方法论，更将启发人们对艺术媒介、语言、内容、样态的可能性的多样认知。
In his speech, Fan Bo expressed his sincere congratulations and warm welcome to Gary Hill for holding his first large-scale solo exhibition in China at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and pointed out that Gary Hill is one of the founders of contemporary American video art. Since the 1960s and 1970s, Gary Hill has started to explore new media and conduct artistic experiments with integrated materials. Video monitors, multi-track tapes, video synthesizers, and sound synthesizers have become the iconic components of his video installation art. At the same time, he was the first to develop the concept of "electronic linguistics", focusing on the relationship and mechanism of images, sounds, and language in the specific field of electronic media. This exhibition is themed "Continuous Happening", which echoes Gary Hill's diverse practices of the complex relationship between language, body, consciousness, and perception through "electronic linguistics", as well as his complex exploration of the multiple interactions between self, machine, media, and technology. What is particularly rare is that in addition to video works, the exhibition also displays a large number of related documents, which makes this exhibition a very meaningful contemporary sample. It not only allows the audience to fully understand Gary Hill's artistic practice and his creative methodology, but also inspires people to have a diverse understanding of the possibilities of artistic media, language, content, and form.

At the opening ceremony, Gary Hill donated his work "Remarks on Color" created in the Art Museum to the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and President Fan Bo presented him with a donation certificate.
同时正在美术馆举行个展“变幻的场景”的荷兰艺术家保罗·希格斯（Paul Segers），也将其作品《抽油机帮派/纵火者/伤口》（The Pump Jack Gang / Firestarter / The Wound）捐赠给了学校，蔡拥华副院长为其颁发了捐赠证书。

Gary Hill ( b. 1951, Santa Monica, California) was a distinguished professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and received honorary doctorates from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, Poland (2005) and Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington, USA, in 2011.

Gary Hill has worked with a broad range of media – including sculpture, sound, video, installation and performance – since the early 1970s. His longtime work with intermedia continues to explore an array of issues ranging from the physicality of language, synesthesia, and perceptual conundrums to ontological space and viewer interactivity. Exhibitions of his work have been presented at museums and institutions worldwide, including solo exhibitions at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Paris; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Guggenheim Museum SoHo, New York; Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel; Museu d’Art Contemporani, Barcelona; and Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, among others. Commissioned projects include works for the Science Museum in London and the Seattle Central Public Library in Seattle, Washington, and an installation and performance work for the Coliseum and Temple of Venus and Rome in Italy. Hill has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Rockefeller and Guggenheim Foundations and has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, most notably the Leone d’Oro Prize for Sculpture at the Venice Biennale (1995), a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowship Award (1998), the Kurt-Schwitters-Preis (2000).
