Professor Sunkoo Yuh's narrative ceramic works are renowned for their vibrant colors and profound symbolism. He ingeniously stacks animal and plant imagery, constructing cyclical visual structures. Since moving to the United States in 1988, his work has been deeply influenced by traditional Korean culture, particularly Confucian values emphasizing respect for teachers and family elders, which have imbued his artistic pursuits with rich spiritual meaning.
Some of his works reflect critical reflections on contemporary society, while others continue the tender and sincere emotional expressions found in Asian folk art. Additionally, he has successfully merged these two elements in his work, presenting a distinctive interpretation of tradition and modernity.

Professor Wei Hua from the School of Arts and Crafts remarked that Professor Sunkoo Yuh’s artwork embodies two significant creative threads: one is the profound influence of Korean folk painting and sculptural techniques, particularly the unique Korean perception of color; the other is the influence of Western expressionist styles, perfectly combining folk forms with modernist color expressions to create a distinctive artistic language. He highlighted that the most admirable aspect of Sunkoo Yuh’s works lies in the inner strength embedded within them.
