【Lighting Workshop】 Main Content

本次活动由国际照明设计大师面出薰先生、以及来自LPA（Lighting Planners Associates）的叶玉女士、广州美术学院建筑艺术设计学院教师林红、杨一丁负责指导，活动借鉴由面出薰先生创立的“国际照明侦探团”的工作方法，选取广州市番禺区南亭村为研究对象，划定“食、商、渡（巷）”三个区域，组织学员进行城市夜景照明研究。

This activity was guided by international lighting design master Mr. Kaoru Mende, Ms. Ye Yu from LPA (Lighting Planners Associates), and teachers Lin Hong and Yang Yiding from the School of Architecture & Applied Arts of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. The activity drew on the working methods of the "International Lighting Detective Team" founded by Mr. Kaoru Mende, chose Nanting Village in Panyu District, Guangzhou as the research object, delineated the three areas of "food, commerce, and ferry (lane)", and organized students to conduct research on urban night lighting.

工作坊从学习研究自然环境和建成环境中的光开始，通过观察、认识、理解、判断、循理和设计过程，旨在培养学员对光的敏感性和创造力，使其能够在各种环境中有效地运用光这一要素，提升生活质量和创造更具吸引力的视觉体验。

The workshop starts with studying the light in the natural and built environments. Through observation, recognition, understanding, judgment, reasoning and design process, it aims to cultivate students’ sensitivity and creativity to light, so that they can effectively use light as an element in various environments, improve the quality of life and create a more attractive visual experience.

在城市夜景调研环节中，学员遵照“国际照明侦探团”的五个原则开展工作，敏感地观察所处空间的“光”，随时体会由美丽光影带来的感动，表达对环境光害的愤慨，冷静地深刻地推理影响体验和情绪的“光”的成因，培养累积“光的经验”的方法能力。

In the urban night scene research session, the trainees carried out their work in accordance with the five principles of the "International Lighting Detective Team", sensitively observing the "light" in their space, feeling the touch brought by the beautiful light and shadow at any time, expressing their indignation to the environmental light pollution, calmly and deeply reasoning about the causes of "light" that affects experience and emotions, and cultivating the ability to accumulate "light experience".

工作坊目标是让学员学习如何将光与影转化为具有诗意的表达，也探讨其在社会和文化中的象征意义，进而在空间环境中，通过更加主动和创造性的设计，以达到利用光影效果设计影响空间氛围和人的情感的目的。

The goal of the workshop is to enable participants to learn how to transform light and shadow into poetic expressions, explore their symbolic meanings in society and culture, and then, through more proactive and creative design in the spatial environment, achieve the goal of using light and shadow effects to influence the spatial atmosphere and people’s emotions.

22日上午，面出薰先生于广美大学城校区J103室进行讲座，主题——从自然光中学习。面出薰先生深入浅出地分享了他对光影的体会，以及几十年来积累的照明设计心得，叶玉女士和嘉宾许东亮先生协助翻译和解说。

On the morning of the 22nd, Mr. Kaoru Mende gave a lecture in Room J103 of the GAFA University Town Campus, with the theme of "Learning from Natural Light". Mr. Kaoru Mende shared his understanding of light and shadow, as well as his experience in lighting design accumulated over decades, in an easy-to-understand manner. Ms. Ye Yu and guest Mr. Xu Dongliang assisted in translation and explanation.

下午，面出薰先生于工作坊分享教学心得：“我在武藏野的照明设计教育”，林红老师进行教学分享：“广美的照明设计教学和创作”。主题分享结束后，工作坊师生，建筑学院领导以及来自校外的业界专家梁峥（中国城市规划设计研究院城市照明规划设计研究中心主任）许东亮（栋梁国际照明设计中心负责人）之间进行了开放式的专业交流。

In the afternoon, Mr. Kaoru Mende shared his teaching experience in the workshop: "My Lighting Design Education in Musashino", and Lin Hong shared her teaching experience: "Lighting Design Teaching and Creation in GAFA". After the themed sharing, the workshop teachers and students, the leaders of the School of Architecture & Applied Arts, and industry experts from outside the school, Liang Zheng (Director of the Urban Lighting Planning and Design Research Center of the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design) and Xu Dongliang (Head of Dongliang International Lighting Design Center) had an open professional communication.

23号上午，全体学员通过投票选出十件优秀茶室设计方案，由学员进行PPT演示说明，并由面出薰先生、叶玉女士、林红老师、杨一丁老师进行点评。下午，叶玉女士进行阶段二照明侦探团城市调研说明会，林红老师演示+讲解仪器使用方法。之后，各位老师共同点评学员【收集光】系列摄影作品。

On the morning of the 23rd, all students voted to select ten excellent tea house design plans, which were presented by students in PPT, and reviewed by Mr. Kaoru Mende , Ms. Ye Yu, Lin Hong, and Yang Yiding. In the afternoon, Ms. Ye Yu conducted a briefing on the city research of the lighting detective team in the second phase, and Lin Hong demonstrated and explained how to use the equipment. Afterwards, all teachers reviewed the students' [Collecting Light] series of photographic works.

晚上，各组到达南亭村指定地点进行夜景调研，四位老师先后前往各小组进行指导建议。

In the evening, each group arrived at the designated location in Nanting Village to conduct a night view survey . Four teachers went to each group to provide guidance and suggestions.

24日上午，各小组统合调研资料进行分析和判断，分辨光的“英雄”与“犯罪者”，并对重点区域提出新的照明设计，其间导师们于各组穿插指导，面出薰先生还进行了特别授课：光与环境关系图的绘制方法，令学员受益匪浅。下午各组进行展示介绍，导师们进行详细的点评和热烈的讨论互动。

On the morning of the 24th, each group integrated the research data for analysis and judgment, distinguished the "heroes" and "criminals" of light, and proposed new lighting designs for key areas. During this period, the instructors gave guidance to each group, and Mr. Kaoru Mende also gave a special lecture: How to draw a diagram of the relationship between light and the environment, which benefited the students a lot. In the afternoon, each group made a presentation, and the instructors gave detailed comments and heated discussions.

工作坊成果于艺术与光环境实验室展览，导师们签署并向全体学员及工作人员颁发了学习证书、优秀学员证书和志愿者工作证书，并与学员逐一合影留念，之后又再次以线上会议形式作了本次工作坊的回顾和总结。

The results of the workshop were exhibited in the Art and Light Environment Laboratory. The instructors signed and issued learning certificates, outstanding student certificates and volunteer certificates to all students and staff. They also took photos with the students one by one, and then reviewed and summarized the workshop again in the form of an online meeting.

本次工作坊活动历时多年酝酿准备，过程工作开展顺利圆满，共有 20 名来自建筑艺术设计学院、跨媒体艺术学院、雕塑与公共艺术学院的硕士研究生、2 名来自广东财经大学的硕士研究生，15 名来自建筑学院、城市学院的本科生以及校外专业人士作为学员参加本次工作坊，另有来自建筑艺术设计学院和跨媒体艺术学院的教师观摩学习和参与交流，成果丰富充实且极具启发性，不仅提升了大家对光与空间关系的专业认知和创作热情，也拉近和巩固了校内外照明设计人及爱好者之间的专业情谊和合作，其对照明设计的价值观和工作方法的培训，也必将在相关专业领域的教育教学和社会传播中起到点亮与传承的作用。

This workshop took many years to prepare and the process went smoothly. A total of 20 postgraduate students from the School of Architecture & Applied Arts, School of Transmedia, School of Sculpture and Public Art, 2 postgraduate students from Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, 15 undergraduate students from the School of Architecture & Applied Arts and the City School, and off-campus professionals participated in the workshop as trainees. In addition, teachers from the School of Architecture& Applied Arts and School of Transmedia observed, learned, and participated in the communication. The results were rich and inspiring, which not only enhanced everyone's professional understanding and creative enthusiasm for the relationship between light and space, but also brought closer and consolidated the professional friendship and cooperation between lighting designers and enthusiasts inside and outside the school. The training on the values and working methods of lighting design will surely play a role in illuminating and inheriting the education and teaching in related professional fields and social communication.

“对于照明设计的秘诀，我认为严格意义上是没有的，但我有自己的原则，我的设计总是建立在自然之上，比如日光或者月光，也许这就是秘诀吧。
“I don’t think there is a secret to lighting design in a strict sense, but I have my own principles. My designs are always based on nature, such as daylight or moonlight. Maybe that’s the secret.
