11月2日,来自世界各地的专家学者齐聚粤北始兴县,在周前艺术公社召开“艺术与地域复兴:从大陆到海岛”2024国际学术会议。该国际会议由广州美术学院、始兴县委、始兴县人民政府联合主办,广美城乡艺术建设研究院、始兴县委宣传部和城南镇政府共同承办,北海道大学观光学高等研究中心、国际海岛文化研究倡议组织协办。
On November 2, experts and scholars from all over the world gathered in Shixing County, northern Guangdong, to hold the 2024 International Academic Conference on "Art and Regional Revitalization: from mainland to islands" at Zhouqian Art Community. The conference was jointly sponsored by Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Shixing County Committee, and Shixing County. The executive organizer includes Institute of Rural Arts and Construction of GAFA, Propaganda Department of Shixing County Committee and Chengnan Town Government. The co-organizer includes Center for Advanced Tourism Studies of Hokkaido University and Small Island Cultures Research Initiative(SICRI).

会议从11月2日到3日持续两天,共分为四个主题论坛:艺术海岛、艺术乡建、地域复兴、创意田园,由来自世界各地的17位知名学者共同探讨全球陆地-岛屿复兴的前沿理论,分享最新研究成果。同时,为艺术推动地域复兴打开 “陆与海”、“居与游”更广阔的视野,探讨全球化时代中的地方意义。
The conference lasted for two days from November 2nd to 3rd, and was divided into four theme forums: Art Island, Artistic Rural Construction, Regional Revitalization, and Creative Rurality. Seventeen well-known scholars from all over the world discussed the cutting-edge theories of global land-island revitalization and shared the latest research results. At the same time, it opened up a broader vision of "land-sea" and "residence-travel" for art to promote regional revitalization, and explored the significance of place in the era of globalization.

At the opening ceremony, Fan Bo, President of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and Hua Guan, Secretary of the Shixing County Committee, delivered speeches respectively, fully supporting and affirming the convening of this conference from the perspectives of disciplinary integration, academic research, heritage protection, and local development. Experts and scholars from world-renowned universities such as Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, and China were warmly welcomed. The opening ceremony was hosted by Qu Yan, Dean of Institute of Rural Arts and Construction, of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.

On the morning of November 2nd, the "Art Island" theme forum was hosted and translated by Qu Meng, Vice Director and Associate Professor of the Center for Advanced Tourism Studies of Hokkaido University.
澳大利亚西悉尼大学社会科学学院副院长、教授约瑟夫·M·切尔以《论传统手工艺品的生产和复兴与旅游业之间的交集及其影响》为题,总结了在旅游业和游客经济非常突出的环境(岛屿和乡村)中进行的长期观察和参与,在这些环境中,游客的目光会主动聚焦于与之相关的现场艺术和文化组合。
Joseph M. Cheer, Associate Dean and Professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Western Sydney, Australia, gave a speech entitled "On Intersections between the Production and Revival of Traditional Artefacts and Tourism and Attendant Implications", summarizing his long-running observations and engagements made in contexts (island and rural) where tourism and the wider visitor economy are prominent, and where the tourist gaze actively homes in on in-situ art and cultural assemblages tied to it.
香港理工大学中国历史文化学系副教授潘律以《流动的边界地:海南岛电影中的岛屿性(1950-1989)》为题,聚焦于与海南岛相关的电影制作及其在周围自然、文化和政治环境中的定位。用“流动的边界地”这个概念来探讨海南流动的岛屿身份,以阐释岛屿在革命中国和早期后革命时期性别与民族等方面的重要性。
Pan Lu, Associate Professor of the Department of Chinese History and Culture at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, focused on the film production related to Hainan Island and its positioning in the surrounding natural, cultural and political environment with the title "Liquid Borderland: Islandness in Films on Hainan Island (1950-1989)". The concept of "liquid borderland" is used to explore Hainan's mobile island identity to explain the importance of islands in terms of gender and ethnicity during revolutionary China and the early post-revolutionary period.
新西兰奥塔哥大学教授亨利·约翰逊的发言题目是《艺术、遗产和工业岛:以鹦鹉岛为例》,从袋鼠岛在工业世界的地位这一角度出发,探讨了袋鼠岛所创遗产的动态变化,以及袋鼠岛如何在当代艺术世界中成为展览、装置和文化展示的空间。
Henry Johnson, Professor at the University of Otago in New Zealand, spoke on the topic of "Arts, Heritage and Industrial Islands: The Case of Cockatoo Island". He examines the dynamics of Cockatoo Island’s created heritage in terms of its place in the industrial world, and how it has been adopted within the world of contemporary art as a space for exhibition, installation and cultural display.
北海道大学高级旅游研究中心副主任、副教授渠蒙在《日本艺术岛复兴——从社会参与艺术到社会嵌入式共同创作》为题的发言中,探讨以海岛生活方式为主的移民,特别是那些在社区内外拥有强大关系网的移民,是如何在商业和社区活动中以竞争和合作等方式发挥各种作用的。
In his speech titled "Art Island Revitalization in Japan – from Socially Engaged Art to Socially Embedded Co-creation," Qu Meng, Deputy Director and Associate Professor of the Center for Advanced Tourism Studies at Hokkaido University, explored how island lifestyle in- migrants, especially those with strong networks within and outside communities, play diverse roles in business and community activities, both competitively and cooperatively.

广州美术学院城乡艺术建设研究院院长、教授渠岩以《“陆—海”和“居—游”:中国艺术乡建的文化混响》为题,提出从“陆地到海岛”的乡村建设思考框架,旨在演示一条可逆与跳转的开放性路线,破除了现代主义图式下“乡村”在空间上的内置特征与隔绝属性。
Qu Yan, Dean and Professor of the Institute of Rural Arts and Construction of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, proposed a thinking framework for rural construction from "land to island" under the title "'Land-Island' and 'Residence-Travel': the Cultural Reverberation in the Construction of China’s Rural Art", aiming to propose a framework for thinking about the construction of the countryside from"land to island", aiming at demonstrating an open route that can be reversed and jumped, and breaking the spatial built-in characteristics and isolation attributes of the "countryside" under the modernist schema.
北京大学城市与环境学院旅游研究与规划中心主任、教授吴必虎的《海岛的旅行书写与地方感知》主旨发言,为学界提供了从海岛书写及其形成的文化沉积中获取地方认知的进路,并进一步落实提升旅游者的海岛体验,增强海岛旅游竞争力,支持海岛旅游可持续发展的地方文化建设上。
Wu Bihu, Professor and Director of the Center for Tourism Research and Planning, College of Urban and Environmental Sciences at Peking University, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Travel Writing and Place Perception on Islands", which provided the academic community with an approach to gaining local cognition from island writing and the cultural deposits it formed, and further implemented local cultural construction to enhance tourists' island experience, strengthen the competitiveness of island tourism, and support the sustainable development of island tourism.
广州美术学院副教授翁奋在《艺术在地实践中的“海岛乡村家园生态”》中以自身经历为研究对象,以翁奋的“海岛乡村”艺术在地实践如何围绕“海岛家园生态”的“陆-岛/岛-陆”关系的总体性结构上去重建岛民的“海岛乡村家园意识”来展开讨论。
In the speech "‘Home Ecology in the Island Countryside’ in Art in Place Practice", Associate Professor Weng Fen of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts takes his own experience as the research object and discusses how Weng Fen's "Island Village" art practice is centered on the overall structure of the “land-island/island-land” relationship of the “Island Home Ecology” to rebuild the islanders’ “Island Village Home Consciousness”.
暨南大学旅游学院副教授林丹通过《基于合作治理网络的乡村创新培育:以中国青田村为例》的研究,聚焦位于中国广东省顺德区青田村的艺术介入乡村复兴实践,通过社会网络分析方法和指数随机图模型,深入剖析以艺术家为主体的合作治理网络结构特征,并依托资源依赖理论分析合作关系形成原因。
Lin Dan, Associate Professor at the School of Tourism at Jinan University, focused on the practice of art-involved rural revitalization in Qingtian Village, Shunde District, Guangdong Province, China, through his research on "Fostering Rural Creativity through Cooperative Governance: A Case Study in Qingtian Village, China". Through social network analysis methods and exponential random graph models, he deeply analyzed the structural characteristics of the collaborative governance network with artists as the main body, and analyzed the reasons for the formation of cooperative relationships based on resource dependence theory.
广州美术学院城乡艺术建设研究院助理研究员兰娟娟以《区域社会的艺术研究:以渠岩的艺术乡建三部曲为例》为题,通过回顾渠岩的艺术乡建三部曲——许村计划、青田计划和周前计划,描述南北乡村在生计方式、社会结构和艺术现象等方面的差异,理解艺术乡建的在地性和可持续发展方式。
Lan Juanjuan, Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Rural Arts Construction of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, took a speech entitled "Artistic Research on Regional Societies: An Example of Qu Yan's Artistic Rural Construction Trilogy". By reviewing Qu Yan's trilogy of art commune projects, the Xucun Project, Qingtian Project and Zhouqian Project, this presentation illustrates the differences between the north and south of the countryside in terms of livelihoods, social structures, and artistic phenomena, and tries to show the importance of regional social comparisons in grasping the basic types of Chinese rural societies and the sustainable development of art commune building.

华南师范大学地理科学学院副教授陈林的《从被动回归到主动创造价值:“城归”群体的迁移机制研究》研究以广东省茂名市电白区为例,基于Smelser的集体行为理论,构建从城市向乡村迁移的机制框架,重点分析结构性诱因、结构性紧张、一般化信念、触发因素、行动动员、社会控制等因素的作用。
Chen Lin, Associate Professor at the School of Geography of South China Normal University, wrote a study titled "From Passive Return to Active Value Creation: Research on the Migration Mechanism of the "Urban Returnees" Group. This study uses Dianbai District, Maoming City in Guangdong Province, as a case study, drawing on Smelser's collective behavior theory to construct a framework for analyzing the dynamics of urban-to-rural migration. The analysis focuses on the influence of structural triggers, tensions, generalized beliefs, triggering events, mobilization of action, and social control.
荷兰代尔夫特理工大学客座研究员迈克尔·贾斯特以《“演化在行动”:广东省乡村地区生态系统的空间多元性、多元智能化、重建与再生》为题关注现代化的单一普遍化之外的超现代传统和实践,提出不同形式的认知导致多种多样的空间和世界模型。
Michael Just, a Guest Researcher at Technische Universiteit Delft in the Netherlands, focused on the ultra-modern traditions and practices beyond the single universalization of modernization in his speech entitled "Acting that they may evolve: Spatio-Purality, Diverse Intelligences and Regeneration in the Rural Ecosystems of Guangdong Province", and proposed that different forms of cognition lead to diverse spatial and world models.

In her keynote speech entitled "The Beauty of Indigeneity and Indigenous Modernity: A Case Study of Tibetan Community", Professor Sun Jiuxia of the School of Tourism Management at Sun Yat-sen University took Xiawu Village in Changdu City, Tibet Autonomous Region as a typical case, revealing the specific manifestations of the beauty of indigeneity from different dimensions such as the relationship between people and objects, and between people, and exploring the intrinsic connection between the beauty of indigeneity and indigenous modernity.
华侨大学当代艺术研究中心主任陈荣鑫以《山海家园——乡土、信仰和社会剧场》为题,以闽南艺术乡建案例的分析,回应“艺术何以为乡村” 的时代之思,即以社会参与式的方式探索乡村复兴的过程之中,如何更好地建立人与自然、人与土地的关系,重建乡村家园的地域文化。
Chen Rongxin, Director of Contemporary Art Research Center at Huaqiao University, took the topic of "Homeland of Mountain and Sea - Locality, Belief and Social Theater" and analyzed case studies of artistic rural development in Minnan to respond to the contemporary question of "what role art plays in rural areas." It explores how to better utilize the advantageous resources of rural communities without losing their local character through a socially participatory approach. Additionally, it discusses how to establish stronger connections between people and nature, as well as between people and the land, thereby reconstructing the regional culture of rural homes.

葡萄牙科英布拉大学社会研究中心高级研究员南希·达克斯伯里以《基于地方的非城市地区文化和创意产业创新:IN SITU 项目》为题,通过深入研究,提出许多重要的观点:非城市地区的创新首先是社会、文化和制度等方面的创新,这些地区出现的创新主要来自当地参与者或团体采取的行动。从艺术/创造性的角度看待特定地方的资源,为探索、理解和利用当地环境创造价值提供了灵感和新方法。
Nancy Duxbury, a Senior Researcher at the Center for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, presented a speech titled "Place-based innovation of cultural and creative work in non-urban areas: The IN SITU project". Through in-depth research, she put forward many important points: innovation in non-urban areas is above all social, cultural, institutional, and the innovations that appear in these territories come largely from actions undertaken by local actors or groups. Artistic/creative perspectives on place-specific resources provide sparks of inspiration and new approaches to exploring, understanding, and building value from the local context.
瑞典奈林大学商业与经济学院副教授索莱娜·普林斯的《转型时期的旅游景观:回顾过去,展望未来》发言中,讲述三个与旅游世界密切相关的景观故事。这三个景观故事既展现了旅游业在塑造乡村景观的新含义和物质性等方面的作用,也展示了旅游业的可能未来。景观是分析地方变化之影响要素的有力框架,因为这一概念赋予自然和物质元素以社会文化和情感价值。
Solène Prince, Associate Professor at the School of Business and Economics at Linnaeus University in Sweden, told three landscape stories closely related to the world of tourism in her speech "Tourist Landscapes in Times of Transition: Remembering the Past and Looking in the Future". The stories of these three landscapes showcase the role of tourism in fashioning new meanings and materiality in rural landscapes, and possible futures. Landscape is a powerful framework for analysing the effects of place change since this concept assigns socio-cultural and affective value to natural and physical elements.
日本广岛大学助理教授西蒙娜·佐莱特以《乡村振兴和可持续乡村未来的整体战略:有机区域方法》为题,概述有机农业区代表样本的特点,研究了其建立、演变和社会-地区 动态特征。探讨有机农业区与其他以农村为基础的社会经济活动之间的联系,讨论该模式如何通过加强地方和区域粮食系统的联系。
Simone Zolet, Assistant Professor at Hiroshima University, Japan, gave a speech entitled "Holistic Strategies for Rural Revitalization and Sustainable Rural Futures: the Organic District Approach", outlining the characteristics of representative samples of organic agricultural areas and studying their establishment, evolution, and socio-regional dynamics. She explored the connection between organic agricultural areas and other rural-based socio-economic activities and discussed how this model can strengthen the connection between local and regional food systems.
华南理工大学外国语学院教授亚当·格里德霍伊以《艺术、遗产和岛屿原住民的协商》为题,以卡拉利特努奈特/格陵兰岛的因纽特人艺术为重点,探讨艺术如何成为土著岛屿振兴的载体,以及如何成为挑战殖民地将土著性视为历史的一种手段。
Adam Grydehøj, professor at the School of Foreign Languages of South China University of Technology, spoke on the topic of “Art, Heritage and Negotiation of Island Indigeneity”. With a focus on Inuit art in Kalaallit Nunaat/Greenland, this presentation questions how art can become a vehicle for Indigenous island revitalisation and a means of challenging colonial ascriptions of indigeneity as a thing of the past.

11月3日晚,为期两天的国际学术会议结束后,与会嘉宾应邀前往观看和体验,在周前村古戏台上演的“千年古韵·小城风情”主题文艺汇演。
On the evening of November 3, after the two-day international academic conference ended, the guests were invited to watch and experience the "Thousand-Year Ancient Charm and Small Town Style" themed art performance performed on the ancient stage of Zhouqian Village.
晚饭过后,周前村及附近村子的男女老少已搬好小板凳,坐在大榕树下等待晚会开始。随着一首热情洋溢的歌曲献唱,观众迅速加入互动,晚会现场气氛逐渐升温。节目包括歌曲演唱、瑶族瓜箪酒仪式、喷火表演等丰富的体验内容,在游戏互动中,不少国外嘉宾获得奖品和祝福。国内外嘉宾与当地村民高涨的热情让晚会表演者全情投入,高潮迭起,欢笑声不断。
After dinner, men, women, young and old from Zhouqian Village and nearby villages had moved their small stools and sat under the big banyan tree waiting for the party to begin. As a passionate song was sung, the audience quickly joined in the interaction, and the atmosphere at the party gradually heated up. The show included song singing, Yao ethnic group melon wine ceremony, fire-breathing performance and other content. During the game interaction, many foreign guests received prizes and blessings. The high enthusiasm of domestic and foreign guests and local villagers made the performers of the party fully engaged. The whole evening was filled with joy and laughter.
这场晚会一方面丰富了当地村民的精神生活和娱乐体验,另一方面也给参与此次国际会议的国内外专家学者留下了深刻印象,体现出粤北山村热情好客、朴素善良的民风民俗。
On the one hand, this evening party enriched the spiritual life and entertainment experience of local villagers. On the other hand, it also left a deep impression on domestic and foreign experts and scholars participating of the international conference, reflecting the warm hospitality, simplicity and kindness of the folk customs of the northern Guangdong mountain villages.

03 Inspection of the Circular Houses
11月4日,国内外专家学者一行前往始兴太平镇东湖坪村永成保障围、沈所镇沈北村红围、城南镇长安围(风度书屋)、罗坝镇燎原村长围参观体验围楼文化。
On November 4, a group of experts and scholars from home and abroad visited Yongcheng Baozhuangwei in Donghuping Village, Taiping Town, Shixing, Hongwei in Shenbei Village, Shensuo Town, Chang'anwei (Fengdu Bookstore) in Chengnan Town, and Changwei in Liaoyuan Village, Luoba Town to visit and experience the circular houses.
在参观过程中,专家学者们对宏伟大气的围屋建筑感到震撼,认识到客家人艰苦奋斗、不畏外敌的精神。北京大学吴必虎教授提出,围楼作为防御建筑功能已经结束,应该思考如何转化为旅游景观,适度开发。北海道大学渠蒙副教授表示,应该丰富宣传形式,为国际友人提供丰富的景点信息,或能促进围楼的保护和发展。国内外专家学者一行合影
During the visit, the experts and scholars were shocked by the magnificent and majestic circular house architecture and realized the spirit of the Hakka people who worked hard and were not afraid of foreign enemies. Professor Wu Bihu of Peking University proposed that the function of the circular house as a defensive building has ended, and we should think about how to transform it into a tourist attraction and develop it appropriately. Associate Professor Qu Meng of Hokkaido University said that we should enrich the publicity form and provide rich scenic spot information to international friends, which may promote the protection and development of the circular house.

11月4日傍晚,国内外专家学者一行前往车八岭茶园体验当地茶叶的制作与茶艺。据当地工作人员介绍,在车八岭的高海拔茶园中种植的茶叶为有机农产品,清香甘甜,深受消费者喜爱
On the evening of November 4, experts and scholars from home and abroad went to Chebaling Tea Garden to experience the local tea production and tea art. According to local staff, the tea grown in the high-altitude tea garden in Chebaling is an organic agricultural product with a sweet fragrance, which is deeply loved by consumers.
茶园位于车八岭优美的自然风景中,群山环绕,水流清澈,空气清新。国内外专家学者一行游览其中,与自然亲密接触,感到身心放松、自由自在。
The tea garden is located in the beautiful natural scenery of Chebaling, surrounded by mountains, with clear water and fresh air. Domestic and foreign experts and scholars visited it, had close contact with nature, and felt relaxed and free.
在考察茶园种植基地和品尝茶叶后,广州美术学院副教授翁奋表示,该茶叶的种植和制作的品质达到了一定标准,是不错的地方特色农产品。专家学者们将茶园基地的茶叶购买一空后,满意而归。
After visiting the tea plantation base and tasting the tea, Weng Fen, Associate Professor of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, said that the quality of the tea plantation and production has reached a certain standard and is a good local specialty agricultural product. The experts and scholars bought all the tea of base and returned home satisfied.

11月5日上午,国内外专家学者一行从周前艺术公社出发前往南华禅寺游览。南华禅寺作为历史悠久的古刹名寺,不仅在国内广为人知,在国际禅文化研究中也名声显著。国内外专家学者一行在导游的介绍中,了解了中国古代建筑、佛教文化及思想的变迁。国外学者纷纷表示“Amazing!”,对南华寺禅宗文化的传承及中华文化的多样性赞叹不已。
On the morning of November 5, a delegation of experts and scholars from home and abroad set out from Zhouqian Art Community to visit Nanhua Temple. As a famous ancient temple with a long history, Nanhua Temple is not only well-known in China, but also has a remarkable reputation in international Zen culture research.
