Keynote Lectures
After successfully completing an in-depth field trip around the Innovation School of GBA campus, the students went to the University Town campus immediately to participate in a wonderful lecture by Katharina Zinn - "Micro- and Macrocosms of (city) living past and present - Case Studies from Ancient Egypt". This lecture covers multiple dimensions including archaeology and future cities, geography, humanities and urban structure of ancient Egypt, with a special focus on the two typical research cases of "Ancient City of Amarna" and "Abydos", as well as the profound inspiration brought by comparative studies. Through case analysis, Katharina Zinn led everyone through time and space in an easy-to-understand way, reviewing the life of ancient cities, exploring the uniqueness of urban development from micro and macro perspectives, and trying to draw wisdom from the logic of ancient Egyptian city construction, providing new thinking and inspiration for modern urban construction.
The historical perspective of Katharina Zinn's lecture provides a reference framework for evaluating modern urban planning and architectural design. Participants can draw inspiration from the depth of history and find solutions to the challenges facing modern cities. Secondly, interdisciplinary learning broadens the participants' horizons, enhances their understanding of urban complexity, and inspires them to use multidisciplinary knowledge to solve problems in their future work. Finally, the practical nature of the workshop allows participants to combine theory with practice. Through field trips and lectures, they learned how to pay attention to individual life experiences at the micro level, while grasping the overall development of the city at the macro level.
