In order to enrich the extracurricular learning and out-of-school life of international students and to perceive and understand Lingnan culture, the International Students Office organized international students to visit and study at the Guangdong Folk Arts Museum on June 19. Guangdong Folk Arts Museum is located in Chen’s Lineage Hall. It was established in 1959 and is a first-class national museum. It integrates a variety of architectural decoration techniques in Lingnan, including wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, pottery, gray sculpture, copper and iron casting and painting. It is known as the "Pearl of Lingnan Architectural Art". The collections include Shiwan ceramics, Cantonese porcelain, ivory carving, Cantonese embroidery, Guangzhou wood carving, brick carving, stone carving and dozens of other categories, covering all craft categories in Guangdong Province that have been included in the Representative List of State-level Intangible Cultural Heritage Items.
通过此次课外学习活动，留学生们欣赏了宏伟壮观的建筑风格、传统工艺的高超水平，学习感受了融通中西、兼收并蓄的岭南文化。
Through this extracurricular learning activity, the international students appreciated the magnificent architectural style and the superb level of traditional craftsmanship, and learned about and experienced the Lingnan culture that integrates Chinese and Western cultures and is inclusive.

在此之前我去过陈家祠一次，大部分的时间都在走马看花。我拍了好多照片但是都没有太深入的了解这个地方。这次故地重游跟随讲解员的步伐让我更加深入了解了陈家祠背后的历史以及其重要性和象征意义。陈家祠的每一个角落都有有趣的小细节。其墙上的木雕、石雕都在向我们呈现一篇篇的故事，背后都具有教育意义让我感受到了在过去的时光里这里浓厚的书香门第气息。现在陈家祠主要作为展示岭南传统工艺的博物馆。在部分工艺上能看到不少具有中西文化合并的结晶我认为这非常值得观摩与学习。
I have been to Chen’s Lineage Hall once before, and spent most of my time there just to take a quick look. I took a lot of photos but didn't really get to know the place. This time, following the guide's steps, I got to know the history behind Chen’s Lineage Hall and its importance and symbolism. There are interesting details in every corner of Chen’s Lineage Hall. The wood carvings and stone carvings on the walls are telling us stories, which made me feel the strong scholarly atmosphere here in the past. Now Chen’s Lineage Hall is mainly used as a museum to display the traditional crafts of Lingnan area. In some crafts, you can see a lot of achievements that integrate Chinese and Western cultures, which I think is worth viewing and learning.

这是我第一次和学校的留学生同学们一起去陈家祠。虽然我以前已经去过一次了，但是当时没有太深入的了解。今天的活动有讲解员详细说明了陈家祠背后的故事。期间，其他留学生朋友也有给我讲解，更好的帮我理解这个地方，所以对我来说这次的出游更有意义。虽然我是短期交换生,但是来到中国后,通过这次活动,可以稍微了解中国文化,特别是广州的历史,我认为这是一次意义深远的活动。虽然我的中文水平不太好,没能完全理解,但是看到陈家祠遗址后,我体会到虽然与我的国家韩国很近,但是感受到了很多相似但不同的文化,这是个新的经验。
This is the first time I went to Chen’s Lineage Hall with my classmates. Although I have been there once before, I didn't have a deep understanding of it at that time. Today's activity has a guide who explains the story behind Chen’s Lineage Hall in detail, other international students also explained to me and helped me understand this place better, so this trip is more meaningful for me. Although I am a short-term exchange student, after coming to China, I can learn a little about Chinese culture, especially the history of Guangzhou through this activity. I think this is a meaningful experience. Although my Chinese level is not very good and I can't fully understand it , after seeing the ruins of Chen’s Lineage Hall , I realized that although it is very close to my country , South Korea, I feel a lot of similar but different cultures . This is a brand new experience.
